Sewage Cleanup in San Antonio — Removed, Cleaned, Rebuilt
A sewer backup is not a drying job. It is a removal job with a rebuild on the other side of it, and one licensed and insured GC handles both — plus the record your carrier will want.
Removal Comes First
Porous materials that sewage touched come out and get disposed of. Drying contaminated carpet and drywall in place is how a cleanup becomes a health problem.
Documented for the Claim
Photos, moisture readings and a written record of everything removed, before it leaves the property — because a carrier only pays for what is on the record.
Xactimate In-House
Our scope is written in the same platform your adjuster uses, so the line items match instead of being argued in two different languages.
Rebuilt by the Same GC
Flooring, drywall, baseboard, cabinets and paint go back by the crew that tore them out. One contract, one accountable contact.
A small wet area, a much bigger job
A clean-water loss is a question of how much you can dry. A sewage backup is a question of what has to leave the building, and the answer is usually more than the wet area suggests, because contaminated water wicks under flooring and into the bottom of the walls. That makes the cleanup, the demo and the rebuild one continuous job — which is exactly the gap that costs homeowners money when a cleanup company hands them a stripped room and a list of contractors. Sewage backups are part of the wider water, fire and storm restoration work we do across the metro.

What a sewage loss actually requires
It is Category 3 water
The restoration industry standard, IICRC S500, sorts water into three categories: Category 1 comes from a sanitary source, Category 2 carries significant contamination, and Category 3 is grossly contaminated and can carry pathogens and sewage. A sewer backup is Category 3 from the moment it reaches the floor, and that category decides the whole plan.
Porous materials come out
Category 3 contact generally calls for removing affected porous materials rather than drying them in place: carpet and pad, wet drywall and insulation, particleboard cabinet bases, laminate. Hard, non-porous surfaces can be cleaned and disinfected and kept. What stays and what goes depends on the material and the assessment, and we show you the reasoning instead of just the bill.
The clean-up and the rebuild are one job
A removal job leaves a room stripped: no flooring, drywall cut to the line, baseboard gone. Most companies stop there and hand you a list of contractors. We are a licensed general contractor, so the same crew that removed it puts it back — flooring, drywall, hand-matched texture, paint, cabinets.
The cause gets fixed too
A backup is a symptom. If the lateral is blocked, root-bound or collapsed, cleaning the floor changes nothing about next month. We identify the source, coordinate the plumbing repair where one is needed, and only then close the structure back up.
Four ways a San Antonio house ends up with sewage on the floor
A blocked sewer lateral
The line from the house to the main is the usual culprit: grease and wipes building up, tree roots finding a joint, or an older line that has sagged or cracked. The water has nowhere to go but back up the lowest fixture in the house, which is why the first sign is often a shower or floor drain rather than the toilet you were using.
Heavy rain surcharging the system
A hard Central Texas rain can load a sewer system faster than it drains, and a house with a low fixture can end up on the receiving end of that. It arrives looking like a plumbing failure when nothing in the house has failed at all.
A failed sewage ejector or lift pump
Any fixture below the main line depends on a pump. When the pump or its float dies, the basin overflows, and because these are usually in a utility space nobody visits, it tends to be found late.
A toilet or drain line overflow left to sit
A small overflow sounds like a mop-up, but if it wicked under the flooring and into the wall base, the contamination went with it. The size of the puddle is a poor guide to the size of the job.
If the water under your floor turned out to be a supply line rather than a drain line, that is a different job: slab leak water damage in San Antonio →
Removal, drying, rebuild — one contract
Assess & Document
Walkthrough, moisture readings, photo and video documentation, and a written Xactimate scope before anything is removed from the property.
Extract & Remove
Contaminated water extracted, and affected porous materials cut out, bagged and disposed of. Everything removed is on the record first.
Clean & Dry
Hard surfaces cleaned and disinfected, then air movers and dehumidifiers until the moisture readings say the structure is dry, not until the schedule says so.
Rebuild & Close the Claim
Flooring, drywall, texture, paint, baseboard and cabinets back in, with supplements submitted for damage that only appeared once the room was open.
Six moves, and two things not to do
With contaminated water, the wrong first move spreads the problem instead of containing it.
Keep people and pets out of it
Treat it as contaminated, because it is. No bare feet, no kids, no pets in the room, and nothing stored on that floor gets used again without being cleaned or thrown out.
Stop using water in the house
Every flush, sink and load of laundry adds to a line that already cannot drain. Shutting water use off is the one thing that keeps the volume from growing.
Kill power to the room if water reached outlets
Breakers off before anyone steps in, especially in a garage or utility room where cords are often on the floor.
Photograph it before you clean anything
Wide shots and close-ups of the water line on the wall, the flooring, the contents. What you have already hauled to the curb is very hard to put back on a claim.
Do not run a fan across it
Blowing air over contaminated water moves the contamination around the house. Containment comes before airflow, and that order matters more here than in a clean-water loss.
Call before you tear anything out
What gets removed, how it gets removed, and whether it was documented first all affect the claim. Call (512) 665-1073 and describe what you are looking at.
Your insurance company has an adjuster. Now you have one on your side.
When you file a claim, your carrier sends an adjuster whose job is to close the loss for as little as the policy allows. Most homeowners face that alone — and settle for a check that never covers the real damage. Not with Raging Bull. Our in-house insurance department goes to work for you: we document every dollar of damage, write the scope in the carrier's own software, and fight to get your claim paid for what it actually takes to rebuild.
We DocuSketch every loss
A full 3D scan and measured floor plan of your property, captured before demo. Hidden and secondary damage goes on the record — and an adjuster can't shortchange what's documented.
We submit the supplements
When we open a wall and find damage no one could see from the doorway, we photograph it, add it to the scope, and file the supplement — so it's covered by your carrier, not eaten by you.
You stay our client
First walkthrough to final invoice, we work for you — not the carrier. We don't stop pushing until your home is restored and your claim reflects the full loss.
All carriers. Property managers and adjusters: we already run make-ready and water-damage repairs for one of the largest property management companies in Texas across San Antonio multifamily properties. Direct line for portfolio work: apartment make-ready & unit turns.

San Antonio sewage cleanup FAQ
- Commonly it is not covered by the base policy. Backup from a sewer or drain is usually excluded unless a water backup endorsement was added, and that endorsement normally carries its own separate limit. Policies differ, so the real answer is in your own declarations page under endorsements. Either way, document everything before it is cleaned up: if the endorsement is there, the documentation is what gets it paid in full, and if it is not, you still want an accurate scope before you decide what to spend.
