If the tub in your Alamo Ranch bathroom mostly goes unused, turning that space into a walk-in shower is a practical upgrade. How the work runs
A standard conversion takes 3 to 7 working days and moves through these phases, in this order. We give you a written day-by-day schedule before we start.
- Demo: protection, tub and surround out, haul-off.
- Plumbing: valve and drain rough-in, relocated if the layout changes.
- Waterproofing: backer board and a waterproofing membrane on the wet walls, with the shower floor sloped to the drain.
- Tile: walls, niche and shower floor, then grout.
- Glass and closeout: fixtures, glass, final punch list and walkthrough.
Materials that hold up
San Antonio's hard water is rough on finishes. Porcelain holds up well on shower walls and floors, a real waterproofing membrane behind the tile matters more than the tile itself, and brushed or matte fixture finishes hide water spots better than polished chrome. Sealed grout and a protective coating on the glass both cut down on cleaning.
