How Much Does a Bathroom Remodel Cost in San Antonio? (2026 Guide)
By Rey Trevino · Published 2026-07-30 · 9-minute read
Short answer: a walk-in shower starts at $3,500 in labor, most complete bathroom builds land $6,500 to $12,000, and full master-suite remodels run $18,000 to $30,000 in San Antonio in 2026. Where your project lands is driven by three decisions — how much of the room you touch, what goes on the walls, and whether any plumbing moves. This guide breaks the whole thing down by scope, by line item, and by neighborhood, using real bids we have written across the metro in the last twelve months. When you're ready for a number on your bathroom, the bathroom remodeling San Antonio page walks through scope and the free fixed-price estimate.
San Antonio bathroom remodel cost by scope
Every bathroom is different, but after building them across the metro, San Antonio jobs fall into four honest tiers. These are real installed prices for 2026 — labor, materials, permits, and cleanup included — not the teaser number a franchise closer quotes before the upsell.
- Labor-only conversion — from $3,500. The entry point. We convert your unused tub into a real tiled walk-in shower; you pick the tile and fixtures and pay material cost direct with no contractor markup. Demo, Schluter or Wedi waterproofing, tile-set, and glass install are all on us, in 3–5 working days. The full day-by-day process is on the tub to shower conversion page.
- Turnkey standard — $6,995 to $9,000. We supply everything: 12x24 porcelain tile, frameless glass, rainhead, handshower, built-in niche. One number, one schedule, no shopping trips. This is the most common build we write in San Antonio.
- Complete walk-in build — $6,500 to $12,000. Where most finished conversions land depending on tile, glass, and footprint. Full-height designer tile, a built-in bench, brushed-gold or matte-black trim, and a larger shower footprint push toward the top of the range. 9–12 days when the rest of the room is refreshed too.
- Master & spa builds — $18,000 to $30,000. The full suite: freestanding tub, heated tile floor, double quartz vanity, custom niche tile, separate water closet. Standard for Stone Oak, Helotes, and Alamo Heights addresses. 11–14 days on site.

Where the money actually goes
A bathroom budget is not one number — it is five line items stacked together. Knowing which ones you control is how you steer the total.
- Tile — the biggest swing. The labor to set tile is roughly the same whether the tile costs $2 or $15 a square foot, so the material choice is nearly pure budget control. A mid-range 12x24 porcelain keeps a shower in the turnkey range; a designer slab-look or handmade zellige pushes the material line up by thousands. Floor-to-ceiling coverage — which is what we always build — makes the choice matter more, not less.
- Glass — $1,500 to $3,500 on its own. Frameless custom glass is measured after tile and cut to your exact opening. It is the single line item people underestimate most, and the one that most changes how finished the room looks. Framed and semi-frameless options exist, but almost every San Antonio homeowner who sees both picks frameless.
- Waterproofing — the part you never see. A real Schluter or Wedi membrane behind every tiled surface, never green board. It is a few hundred dollars of material and the single biggest reason San Antonio showers leak into the subfloor three years in when it is skipped. We do not write bids without it.
- Vanity and counters. A quality prefab vanity holds the line; a custom double vanity with a quartz top and undermount sinks adds $2,500–$6,000. Quartz is the San Antonio workhorse here for the same reason as in kitchens — non-porous and it handles our hard water.
- Plumbing moves. Keep the drain, valve, and toilet where they are and rough-in stays simple. Relocate the drain for a bigger footprint, add a freestanding tub filler, or steal closet space for the shower, and you add rough-in labor, an inspection, and days — this is what separates a complete build from a master build.

Bathroom remodel cost by size: 5x7, 5x8, 5x10, and 10x10
Most people price a bathroom by its footprint, so here are the four sizes we see most in San Antonio and where a real-tile remodel lands for each in 2026. Two rules hold across all of them: labor is roughly 40–60% of the total on a standard build, and the shower — tile, waterproofing, and glass — is where most of the money goes regardless of room size.
- 5x7 bathroom remodel — $6,500 to $12,000 installed. The classic San Antonio hall and guest bath. Labor alone runs about $3,500–$5,500 depending on whether the tub stays or becomes a walk-in shower; tile, glass, and fixtures make up the rest. Because the footprint is tight, material upgrades move the total less here than in any other size.
- 5x8 bathroom remodel — $7,000 to $12,500 installed. One more foot of wall barely changes demo or labor ($3,500–$5,500), but it usually buys a full 60-inch shower opening — which means standard-size glass instead of custom cuts, one of the few places a bigger room actually saves money.
- 5x10 bathroom remodel — $8,000 to $14,000 installed. The long secondary bath common in 1990s–2010s San Antonio builds. The extra floor tile and a wider vanity add to materials, and labor runs $4,000–$6,500. This is the size where a double vanity first becomes realistic.
- 10x10 bathroom remodel — $14,000 to $30,000 installed. Master territory. At 100 square feet you are into separate shower and tub decisions, double vanities, and possibly a water closet — which is why this size spans the whole master and spa tier above rather than a tight range.
Want a quick estimate before you call anyone? Multiply the room's square footage by $130–$180 for a mid-range real-tile remodel, or $200–$300 for spa-level finishes. A 5x8 at 40 square feet lands right around $7,000–$9,000 mid-range — which matches what we actually write on bids. If a number you got from a franchise is far above that math, you are paying for their showroom, not your bathroom.
Bathroom remodel cost by San Antonio neighborhood
The work is the same crew and the same fixed-price method everywhere we go — but home age, finish expectations, and footprint shift where most projects land inside the range.
- Alamo Heights — premium. Pre-1960 homes with smaller original bath footprints and detail worth preserving. Most full remodels here land $14,000–$30,000, with spa-level masters at the top. Details on the Alamo Heights bathroom remodel page.
- Stone Oak — mid-premium. Newer construction where homeowners upgrade builder-grade masters to spa level — frameless glass, quartz double vanities, large-format tile. Typical range $18,000–$25,000. See the Stone Oak bathroom remodel page for the finish level.
- Alamo Ranch — mid. 1990s–2010s master footprints where the walk-in conversion with frameless glass is the most common build. Typical range $6,500–$14,000. More on the Alamo Ranch bathroom remodel page.
- Helotes & Leon Valley — mid-budget. Hill Country and established neighborhoods where a strong same-footprint refresh delivers the best return. Typical range $6,500–$12,000. See Helotes and Leon Valley project pages.
How to lock in a fixed price
The single biggest reason bathroom budgets blow up in San Antonio is the change order — a number that creeps every time something is "discovered" after demo. We don't work that way. After a free 30-minute in-home walkthrough, you get a fixed-price written estimate, locked before any demo starts. The price you sign is the price you pay unless you change scope. That estimate spells out tile, glass, waterproofing system, fixture allowance, and the daily schedule, and every job carries a written two-year warranty. For the full scope and process, the bathroom remodeling San Antonio page covers it end to end, and you can see a real build at a real price in our Stone Oak before & after.
