999 on the Meter: a Same-Day Water Damage Call in Cibolo

By Rey Trevino · Published 2026-09-22 · Called in and worked the same day

A homeowner in Cibolo called about water in the laundry room. We locked the job in and were there the same day. The meter against the laundry wall read 999 — the top of its scale, pinned. Then we checked the next room, down at the floor: 212, and the meter still said WET. That second reading is the one worth remembering, and this page is the whole job — the readings, the open wall, the equipment, and the room put back together.

Same day, because water does not wait

The call came in and the job was worked that same day — not scheduled for the following week, not queued behind a remodel. That matters more in water work than in anything else we do. Every hour water sits, it travels further: along the bottom plate of the wall, under the flooring, into the next room. A loss that could have been one wall becomes three rooms and a mold problem, and the difference is usually measured in days.

We are honest about what “same day” means: the phone is answered 24/7 — Rey picks it up himself, English or Spanish — and we tell you straight when a crew can be on site. We would rather lose the call than promise you a two-hour window we cannot make.

What the meter actually said

Two readings tell this whole story. The laundry wall pinned the meter at 999 — that is the top of the scale, not a percentage of anything. The wall was as wet as the instrument can register, and you can see the water wicking up through the texture in the photo.

Then the next room, at the joint where the floor meets the wall: 212. A much lower number — and the WET indicator was still lit. That room looked fine. It felt fine. It was not dry. Both readings came off the same instrument on the same relative scale, which is what makes the comparison meaningful: it maps the edge of the water instead of guessing where it stopped.

The next room over: 212 — and the WET indicator is still lit. A room that looks and feels dry can still be holding water.

We opened the wall. We did not guess at the cause.

The crew cleaned the area, then opened the wall below the washer box. That is not damage for its own sake — it is access. Fans blowing across a closed wall dry the paint and leave the cavity soaked, and the cavity is where the framing, the insulation and the back of the drywall are.

Worth saying plainly, because plenty of contractors would not: we are not going to tell you on a web page what failed inside that wall. There were supply lines and drain lines both running through it. Diagnosing the source is done on site, with the wall open, in front of the homeowner — not written up afterward to make a better story.

Drying equipment running before we left

Air movers and an LGR dehumidifier were set and running that day. The air movers push air across the wet material to lift moisture into the air; the dehumidifier pulls that moisture back out and drains it away. One without the other just moves the water around the house. Equipment stays until the readings say the material is dry — not until a set number of days has passed.

Then the part most restoration companies do not do

When the readings came down, the same company put the room back: new drywall where we had cut it open, and the texture matched by hand so the repair does not stand out on a textured wall — which is where most patches announce themselves. Baseboard reinstalled, washer and dryer moved back into place, walls ready for paint.

A restoration-only outfit dries your house and hands you a hole. We are a licensed general contractor, so the dry-out and the rebuild are one job with one point of contact. For mold, we coordinate licensed remediators and then handle the rebuild ourselves — we will not claim a licence we do not hold.

What to do if this is happening at your house right now

  1. 1. Stop the water. Shut off the supply valve to the fixture, or the main if you cannot find it. Everything else waits on this.
  2. 2. Photograph it before anything moves. Wide shots and close shots, including the wet floor and anything damaged. Your claim is built from what you can show.
  3. 3. Call before you start cutting. (512) 665-1073, answered 24/7. What you remove and how you remove it affects the claim, and a wall opened the wrong way can cost you a line item.
  4. 4. Do not wait for the adjuster to authorize drying. Policies expect you to mitigate — that means acting to stop the damage spreading, not sitting on wet material for a week waiting on a phone call.

Where this fits in a claim

Our estimating is in-house. We document the loss for your carrier — photos, moisture readings like the ones on this page, and a line-item scope written the way adjusters read. In most claims what you actually pay is your deductible, and the argument is about scope, not price. What homeowners insurance covers for water damage in Texas walks through which losses are typically covered, which are excluded, and what documentation changes the answer.
